ASTCT Leadership Course

The American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy is proud to offer a year-long program to provide training and develop the next generation of leaders in the field of blood and marrow transplantation and cellular therapy.  The program is intended for mid-career ASTCT members and will consist of a 1.5-day in person meeting and graduation at the Tandem Meetings of ASTCT and CIBMTR the following year. Tuition, travel, housing and meal expenses will be covered by the society for course attendees. Twelve future leaders will be selected through a competitive selection process. 

Objectives and Curriculum
The course is designed to provide a highly interactive experience for future leaders in blood and marrow transplantation and cellular therapy. Topics covered will range from leadership characteristics, problem solving, research enterprise, managing teams, difficult conversations, advocacy, reimbursement, program accreditation, outcomes reporting, and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact and network with invited faculty who are experienced leaders in the field.

Eligibility and Application
Applicants must be current, active members of ASTCT. This course is open to all disciplines, including nurses, advanced practice providers, administrators, MDs, etc. 

  • Physicians: 5 – 12 years out from completion of fellowship training
  • Non-physicians/BMT Program administrators: 2 – 5 years from appointment in leadership position at BMT Program

Applicants may or may not be serving as BMT/cell therapy Program directors at their institutions. The program is geared towards individuals who are relatively early in their leadership role or anticipate taking on a program director role in the future.

  • Application survey
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Statement of interest
  • Letter of recommendation from a BMT Program or Department Chair or from a senior member of participant’s institution


Applications to the 2023 Leadership Course are closed. Applications to the 2024 Leadership Course will open in Fall 2023.
