President's Message: The Opportunities Before Us

As summer transitions to fall, I often find myself thinking about the rhythm of our profession. In hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy, there is never a pause. New research emerges, novel therapies advance, collaborations deepen, and throughout it all, our community continues to learn, adapt, and grow.

What has always impressed me about ASTCT is how strongly our members embrace that commitment to continual growth. Whether through scientific discovery, clinical innovation, advocacy, education, or mentorship, our Society brings together professionals dedicated to improving patient outcomes and advancing the future of our field.

This season offers several opportunities to do exactly that.

One of the moments I look forward to each year is opening registration for the Tandem Meetings under the leadership of 2027 Scientific Organizing Committee Co-Chairs Dr. Sung Choi, and Dr. Ran, Reshef, MSc. This event remains a cornerstone of our community — bringing together clinicians, researchers, pharmacists, advanced practice providers, nurses, administrators, and trainees from around the world. Beyond the outstanding science and education, the Tandem Meetings create space for something equally important: connection.

Many of the collaborations that shape our field begin with a conversation in a meeting room, a discussion after a presentation, or an introduction to a colleague with a shared interest. As our science continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace, opportunities to come together, exchange ideas, and learn from one another become even more valuable. I encourage you to begin making plans to join us in Orlando next February.

Looking ahead to next year's Tandem Meetings, I also encourage you to take a moment to recognize the individuals who have helped bring our field to where it is today. Nominations are now open for ASTCT's Premier Awards, which honor those whose leadership, scientific achievement, clinical excellence, mentorship, and service have made a lasting impact on our community.

Throughout my career, I have benefited from mentors, colleagues, and pioneers whose dedication helped advance both our science and our profession. Celebrating excellence not only honors past achievements but also inspires the next generation of leaders who will carry this work forward.

Education remains one of the most powerful tools we have for advancing patient care, and I am excited about the variety of webinars and educational programs ASTCT will offer throughout September. I am grateful for all the ASTCT leaders who make these programs possible. These programs will explore complex clinical cases, updated consensus grading, and other timely topics that support learning across our multidisciplinary community.

I am also particularly looking forward to ASTCT's inaugural Meeting on Transplant and Cellular Therapy for Immunological Disorders, which we are proud to present under the leadership of Dr. David Porter and Dr. Claudio Brunstein, in collaboration with the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute. This meeting reflects the expanding role of transplantation and cellular therapies in the treatment of immunological disorders and will bring together experts in transplantation, cellular therapy, rheumatology, and neurology to explore emerging applications, clinical challenges, and future opportunities. The program is designed to encourage meaningful cross-disciplinary collaboration and help advance patient care in this rapidly evolving area.

Finally, as membership renewal season approaches, I’ve been reflecting on my own involvement with ASTCT. The Society has provided me with opportunities to learn, collaborate, serve, and take part in a community that has enriched my career in countless ways. Those same opportunities continue to strengthen our community today and support members at every stage of their professional journey.

Connection is one of ASTCT's greatest strengths — it’s reflected in our meetings, educational programs, advocacy efforts, volunteer leadership, special interest groups, publications, and everyday interactions. The Society's impact is ultimately created by its members, and I am grateful for the dedication, expertise, and generosity that you bring to this community.

As we move into the busy months ahead, I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities before us: learn, connect, mentor, collaborate, and engage. Together, we will continue advancing our mission and building a stronger future for our field and the patients we serve. I am excited to see what we can accomplish in the months ahead.
