ASTCT ADVOCACY

ASTCT proudly advocates on behalf of our members and patients. From engaging with government leaders on Capitol Hill to submitting responses to important legislative and policy changes, ASTCT is dedicated to ensuring the voices of our members are heard. ASTCT believes that advocacy is a key component in serving patients by helping them to access some of the most innovative lifesaving treatments.

ASTCT’s Government Relations Committee, headed by ASTCT Director of Government Relations Alycia Maloney, engages in external advocacy efforts as well as internal efforts by educating our members about these policy changes and their effects on physicians, patients, and this important field of medicine.

On September 14, 2023, ASTCT leaders and volunteers from all over the country are meeting with their respective members of Congress to advocate for patient access to lifesaving transplant and cell therapy treatments and methods of care.

Some of the issues ASTCT will be discussing with Congress include:

  1. Assistance with FDA drug shortages

  2. Supporting the Donor Leave Act (H.R. 3024)

  3. Requiring state Medicaid programs that authorize out-of-state care, to accept active Medicare enrollment, to make payment

  4. Increased funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
