Healio Blog: Effective Leadership in Healthcare Starts With Listening

As medical professionals progress in their careers, they are frequently tasked with additional leadership responsibilities. Despite their value, the skills necessary to serve in these roles are not always prioritized in medical schools and residencies. The American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) provides an annual leadership course dedicated to ASTCT’s emerging leaders.

ASTCT asked four recent participants — Christen L. Ebens, MD, MPH; Zhubin Gahvari, MD, MS; Tae Kon Kim, MDPhD; and Linh E. Sellers, CCRP — to share their perspectives on the value of soft skills for medical leaders, their takeaways from the course and the advice they would give to their peers who want to strengthen their leadership abilities.
